Iowans, not unexpectedly, just made a mockery of the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law. Entrance polls in Iowa reveal that a majority of Trump supporters don’t believe Biden legitimately won the 2020 election. Of course, we all know that is BS because to date, after over sixty lawsuits, no one has been able to provide one shred of evidence there was widespread voter fraud that would have changed the outcome of the election. In addition, many of these same people said that even if Trump were convicted of a crime, they believe he would be fit to serve as president. How the hell did we get here? It’s a sad day for America but probably a declared national holiday in Russia and China!
So many of these people who cite the economy as a major reason for backing Trump have obviously not been listening to the propaganda pushed by the right-wing media and the Trump campaign rather than looking at the real data. The economy now is far stronger than it was under Trump. Unemployment is at record low levels. Inflation is abating. The stock market is at all-time high. Manufacturing jobs are being created in record numbers in the United States. Our foreign alliances are stronger than they have been since Trump first took office. And, the fact is, the national debt soared under the Trump administration.
Many of these people said they wanted a candidate who shared their values which is unbelievably ironic because many of these people are evangelical Christians and Trump is the most anti-Christian candidate in years. He rarely goes to church and if he does it’s for a photo op. He is like the poster boy for how to violate every single one of the Ten Commandments. The just shows the danger of the religious right. They are willing to make a pact with the devil in order to push their right-wing religious views upon the entire country. Doesn’t seem very Christian to me but what do I know.
It certainly seems obvious that the Republican Party officially no longer exists. It is clearly the Trump Party. All the Republicans who have supported him and failed to hold him to account for the multitude of crimes he has committed over the years will be complicit in any future crimes he commits if he is re-elected to the White House. If American democracy ceases to exist as we know it now, it will only be because the Republican leadership and Congress simply did not have the spine or moral compass required to stop Trump when they had the chance.
Putin’s strategy in Ukraine for the next year is just to hang on and do everything in his power to help get Trump elected. If that happens, Trump will walk away from Ukraine and Putin will have won his prize. The same is true for President Xi in China. If Trump is re-elected, he will be even more embolden, confident in the belief that Trump will do nothing to stop him. If Trump follows through on his threat to pull out of NATO, Europe will no longer trust the United States and will make new alliances – my guess is with China.
Anyone who thinks Trump will ‘Make American Great Again” is likely in for a very rude awakening. The rich will get richer (if they are a friend of Trump). The poor will get poorer. Medical care and insurance will become less accessible and more costly. Hate crimes will skyrocket even more.
The Law of Unintended Consequences will be in full force. And if anyone comes back at any time with “I didn’t think that would happen,” they are unimaginably stupid. Yes that is harsh, but anyone who is at all paying attention can see what will happen.
And I will be more than happy to say, “I told you so!” from wherever I am in the world!
