If there was ever an example of Trump caring more about Trump than the United States of America and how most Republicans in Congress have become spineless sycophants, the current issues surrounding the bill to provide border security and aid to Ukraine is it. A bi-partisan group in Congress has been working for months to craft a compromise bill to address the US Southern border issues and provide much needed aid to Ukraine and just as it seemed they were close to an agreement, Trump weighed in and is pressuring his acolytes to torpedo the whole bill.
The reason for this is obvious to anyone who gives it even a minimum of thought. The US economy is booming. Wages are up. Inflation has come way down. The GDP is growing robustly. Manufacturing jobs are growing. Unemployment is at a record low. Recently the UAW endorsed Joe Biden for the upcoming election. Given all of that, Trump can’t use the economy as a campaign issue, so he needs another issue and he is aiming to use immigration as his big issue, similar to his 2026 campaign. If Congress passes the current bi-partisan bill that will take away Trump’s big issue.
Trump wants to use immigration as his big campaign issue to get his base all riled up and to distract others from his ongoing legal circus. This is where the cowardice (and lack of patriotism) of most of the Republican Congressmen and Congresswomen is on full display. If they were doing their jobs, they would pass legislation that was in the best interest of the country but instead are kowtowing to Trump who is not even president yet. Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, says that he talks to Trump frequently! Who the hell is in charge of this asylum?
Since the Republicans insisted that the aid to Ukraine be tied to passing a border security bill, Trump and his sycophants are basically throwing Ukraine to the Putin wolves for nothing more than political gamesmanship. It is really sad commentary on the state of American politics, the state of the Republican party and the United States international reputation. It couldn’t be clearer that Trump doesn’t give one whit about America but cares only for what he perceives will benefit Trump.
The parade of politicians who at one time spoke out against Trump and, according to reports, continue to bad mouth him in private, who now almost trample each other to get in line to kiss his behind is nothing short of disgusting. Ron DeSantis, Tim Scott, Kevin McCarthy, and a whole host of other people who have been completely emasculated by Trump. Even though Nikki Haley is still a long shot to win the Republican nomination, she has shown more balls than almost the entire group of Republican Congressman. The fact that a woman is the only one left standing must really grate on Trump’s nerves.
One must ask oneself, why is it that most of the people who have stood up to Trump are women? Adam Kinzinger is a rare exception along with a few other men. However, it is largely the women who have mustered the courage to stand against Trump. Liz Cheney, Cassidy Hutchinson, E. Jean Carroll, Nikki Haley, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and more. It appears that the majority of men making up the Republican Congressional delegation need a huge shot of testosterone because they have degenerated into spineless, sycophants rather than respected legislators! The really sad part is that Trump will throw each and every one of them under the bus in a heartbeat if it in some way will benefit Trump. As we should all know by now, loyalty with Trump is a one-way street.
