We should all rest easier this morning now that the House of Representatives took a major step in addressing the immigration issue at the southern border. By a one vote margin, strictly along party lines, they voted to impeach the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas. Impeachment, as you may remember from the two failed impeachments of Trump can be for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”  Nothing Mayorkas has done comes anywhere close to this standard. There is virtually zero chance Mayorkas will be convicted in the Democratically controlled Senate. So why did the House Republicans push this? Political showmanship!

They had the opportunity to actually do something to address the border issues when the bipartisan bill was hammered out in the Senate but rather than actually legislate, which is their job, they killed that bill and decided to engage in yet another political circus stunt orchestrated by their ringmaster, Donald Trump. I would offer that any Republican in the House who claims this was for any reason other than to placate Trump is flat out lying. The impeachment of Mayorkas will do absolutely nothing to address anything at the border. Zero. Zip. Nada!

On a more cynical note, if that is possible, if I thought there might be even a little bit of racism permeating the Republican Party, I might suspect that one of the reasons Mayorkas was impeached is simply because his name is “Alejandro Mayorkas” instead of say, “John Smith.”  That is surely unlikely because we all know there is no racism whatsoever within the Republican Party! (I also have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale if you are interested!)

The vote to impeach Mayorkas will do nothing to address the border issues, but it clearly proves exactly what I pointed out yesterday that Trump has completely sucked the blood and spine out of the entire House of Representatives and many Republicans in the Senate. In the Wizard of Oz, the ‘man behind the curtain’ ultimately awarded the Scarecrow a brain, the Tin Man a heart and the Cowardly Lion some courage. Trump, on the other hand, the man behind the Republican curtain is doing exactly the opposite. He is sucking the brains, hearts, and courage out of every Republican he comes in contact with.

It is clear that Trump now has absolute and total control over the House of Representatives and a good part of the Republican in the Senate. He has also moved to ensure he has total control over the entire Republican Party by installing his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, Eric Trump’s wife, as co-chair of the RNC. Everyone needs to understand that if Trump is elected, the country will be saddled with not just Donald Trump but more than likely multiple members of the Trump clan. Remember Ivanka and Jared in the White House? At one point, Trump had offered up the possibility of Ivanka Trump being his VP. If anyone thinks that is beyond the realm of possibility, you’d better think again.

If Trump gets elected, he will have no intention of he or his progeny ever relinquishing control. And no matter how many times we click the heels of our ruby slippers together, there will be no going back.
