James Comer, the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has launched yet another fruitless investigation to waste even more taxpayer dollars. This time, he is going after Kamala Harris’s running mate, Tim Walz. The purported reason for parking this Congressional backhoe on Tim Walz’s front lawn is to ‘investigate’ his ties to China because he once taught there. And that, mind you, was before he was anywhere near the levers of power in government. Comer is a member of the same MAGA Republican chorus in Congress that continuously beats the drum about Biden’s ‘weaponization of the government.’  Sounds like a ‘do as I say, not as I do’ kind of thing, but, then again, when has a little hypocrisy ever bothered Republicans. (Think Mitch McConnell refusing a confirmation hearing for Merrick Garland for a vacant Supreme Court seat and then ramming through the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett in three weeks!)

Before Tim Walz was selected as Harris’s running mate, hardly anyone knew who Tim Walz was outside of Minnesota. He was a member of the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019. One would have thought that if his fellow Republican members of Congress were so concerned about nefarious relationships Walz had with China, that might have been a good time to look into it. No one cared because there was nothing to care about. However, now that he is Harris’s running mate, James Comer feels compelled to launch this investigation to generate sound bites for Fox News to try to shore up Trump and Vance’s sagging poll numbers.

This, like so many of the ‘investigations’ launched by Comer and Jim Jordan, are so pathetically transparent as to their real purpose which is to generate meaty sound bites to throw to the MAGA base, that it is a huge insult to the intelligence of most of the American electorate. It is also a huge waste of taxpayer dollars and government resources.

I could suggest a number of investigations that might prove more fruitful and could possibly answer some questions for many voters. For example, how was Ivanka Trump able to get patents in China at the same time her father, President Trump at that point, was engaged in a trade war with China? Why did Saudi Arabia decide to invest $2 BILLION into a hedge fund run by Jared Kusher, President Trump’s son in law, only six months after leaving the White House, when Kushner had zero track record running hedge funds? Or perhaps investigate why Marjorie Taylor Greene seems to make regular appearances on Russian television? Maybe, given Trump has already been found liable for sexual assault in a civil case, found guilty of fraud, convicted on thirty-four felony counts in his hush money trial, and stole a host of classified documents from the U.S. Government, they should aim their investigations a little close to home.

Since Comer and Jordan are so concerned with ‘oversight’ (Comer) and ‘upholding the law’ (Jordan), perhaps they would like to disclose to the American people exactly how much money they have spent on their fruitless investigations over the last several years (does anyone remember Jordan’s Benghazi investigations?) and exactly what the results have been.  They have lost sight of the fact that they work for us, the American people, and their jobs are primarily to legislate and solve problems for the American people. Instead, they seem to believe the U.S. Treasury is their own personal piggybank to embark on Quixotic investigations that are nothing but politically motivated attempts to exact revenge and smear people they don’t like all in the interest of getting their heads further up Trump’s behind. Rest assured, if Trump is re-elected, this is but a small taste of what life will be like.

Maybe I will be the subject of a Comer or Jordan investigation one of these days because I write these columns! They would no doubt find out about my sordid past of misdeeds like when I was playing somewhere I was not supposed to be in first grade, fell and broke my arm. And there was the time I was driving too fast and spun out my parents 1965 Mustang convertible. Such behavior clearly shows my rebellious tendencies so surely, I must be a threat to the country. Bring it on Comer!!  Oops, what I meant to say is, “You’re a F*$KING idiot! Stop wasting OUR money!
