Trump keeps saying there is a ‘national emergency’ as justification for some of the actions he is taking. One would think that if there is a real national emergency, not to mention the plunging stock market which is wiping trillions of dollars off the map, that a president would feel compelled to stay in Washington to deal with these crises. Instead, Trump is off for another glorious week of golf in Florida at one of his clubs hosting a tournament. (Does anyone remember Trump giving Obama a tough time for playing golf occasionally? But we all know hypocrisy is alive and well in Trumpland).
I do understand the President has access to secure communications system wherever he goes (like the app Signal perhaps!!) but, even so, playing golf during a national emergency just kind of sends the wrong message. Perhaps there is no national emergency – yet! But I predict there will be. And the real question is, “How will this circus of incompetent clowns react during a real national emergency?” I’m willing to bet it will look like the Three Stooges – but with more stooges!
Trump just fired the top two people at the National Security Agency who were very qualified and had extensive experience. The NSA is the agency that is charged with intercepting and decoding communications from our adversaries and making it difficult for our adversaries to do the same to us. Trump’s anti-DEI war is based on the premise that all positions should be based simply on merit and experience. Why then, would Trump fire the top two people at the NSA who check both those boxes. They were fired because Laura Loomer persuaded Trump they were not loyal enough to him. And, once again the big winner will be Vladimir Putin! Does anyone else see a pattern here?
That begs the question, “Who the hell is Laura Loomer?” Laura Loomer is a right-wing activist, social media ‘influencer,’ and conspiracy theorist. She is a self-proclaimed, ‘proud Islamaphobe’ and has said the Islam is a cancer on society. She has unsuccessfully run for office in Florida. She has at times been suspended from Barry University for a film she made, had her media credentials revoked and was banned from Twiitter but was reinstated after Musk bought it. In short, she is a right-wing, rabble rouser.
Of course, Trump denies Laura Loomer had anything to do with the firing of the senior NSA officials, but you would have to be a complete idiot to not connect the dots. Laura has made it her mission to divine out who is not loyal in the Trump administration. She had a meeting with Trump and immediately afterward, heads roll at the NSA. Coincidence. BS! And, by the way, just like Elon Musk, Laura Loomer has no official position in the government.
What a great country. Elon Musk and his merry band of hackers are slashing and burning their way through every US government agency. Laura Loomer has the president’s ear about who to fire in his ongoing purge of the ‘deep state.’ We are in the middle of a national emergency (per Trump), the stock market is plunging, our allies are pulling away and Trump is off hosting a golf tournament!
This is really becoming a combination of Game of Thrones and the old slapstick comedy, It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. So, how will this ship of fools manage a real national emergency that I believe is now inevitable? With Trump, Elon Musk, Laura Loomer, Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr in the wheelhouse, what could go wrong? Never in the history of this country have the most senior and powerful positions in the government been staffed by so many incompetent people.
It is quite ironic that Trump and his minions embarked on their anti-DEI crusade because they wanted positions to be awarded solely on merit and performance without regard to anything else such as gender, race, sexual orientation, or religion. However, now the most important qualification for anyone in Trump’s government is loyalty and that is clearly more important than qualifications and performance.
When, and not ‘if,’ a real national emergency happens, this push for loyalty over competence will further expose the folly of this administration and just like with the plunging stock market and rising prices, the American people will pay the price. The Three Stooges will look like Phi Beta Kappa scholars compared to this incompetent group of buffoons whose sole qualifications are loyalty and subservience. It would be funny if it weren’t so tragic and the consequences so great.
