The GOP continues to live up to their name – Great Obstructionist Party!! True conservatism has been left by the roadside as the MAGA Republicans under the direction of Trump have usurped control of the party and are more interested in blocking, obstructing, impeaching, investigating, generating sound bites for right-wing media and, undermining democratic processes than they are in actually legislating and solving problems. This is on full display at the national level on a daily basis, e.g., the current border bill fiasco and aid to Ukraine and Israel but is also playing out across Republican controlled states.
First, it is ironic that during the Trump administration he and his toadies continually railed against the ‘deep state’ working to thwart Trump’s wishes (despite many of his proposals being illegal!) and we now have Trump essentially doing the exact thing he complained about. He is not the president. Period. Full Stop. Regardless of all the lies, it has been established beyond any doubt that Joe Biden was duly elected as president. And yet, Trump continues to pressure Congresspeople to do his bidding and, worse yet, they are listening to him. It’s like Trump and his MAGA sycophants are trying to run a parallel government – a ‘deep state,’ if you will, the sole objective of which is to derail any policy initiative that might in any way be seen as a benefit to Joe Biden and the democrats.
Politico reported: “Before Jason Smith moved his $78 billion bipartisan tax deal through the House, the Ways and Means chair made sure to run it by Donald Trump.”1 It’s just another example of how these emasculated Republican clowns cannot do anything without first asking ‘Daddy.’ They sound more like children who must ask their parents before they do anything, so they won’t get in trouble and be sent to the Trump woodshed which, by the way, is getting very crowded. (I wonder if there will soon be room for Alina Habba, Trump’s most recent losing attorney).
Not only are they using this parallel ‘government in exile’ to obstruct policies that most believe are in the best interests of the United States, regardless of who gets the credit, but they are using the Republican controlled state legislatures to pass laws that serve no purpose other than to try to tilt the election tables in favor of Republicans. Numerous Republican controlled state legislatures are trying to pass laws greatly restricting mail-in voting which will make it harder for a lot of people to vote. There was the joker in Arizona who was pushing a law that would allow the state legislator to decide the electors in a presidential election regardless of the popular vote. The list goes on and on!
There is a ‘deep state’ at work in this country and it is being led by none other than Donald J. Trump. One of the basic tenets of a democracy is that you only have one government at a time and that government is fairly elected by the people. Donald Trump and the Republicans are doing everything in their power to undermine that principle. They are clearly more interested in tearing this country apart than working with the duly elected president and other duly elected members of congress, regardless of party affiliation, to solve real problems.
The GOP – Great Obstructionist Party! History will remember.
