We should all be breathing a sigh of relief now that the three judge panel of the DC Circuit Court of Appeals eviscerated Trump’s arguments that, as president, he enjoyed absolute immunity from prosecution for anything he did while in office. He will likely appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court but most legal scholars I’ve heard discuss the ruling from the DC court have said it is ‘air tight’ and would be surprised if SCOTUS intervenes.
I’m no legal scholar but my common sense tells me that if a president has aboslute immunity from prosecution, it would be a nightmare. In Trump’s case, given that he has no ethics or moral compass whatsoever, it would be like giving John Gotti the keys to New York City and the Federal Reserve Bank there. The whole idea is completely absurd. I honestly don’t see how any sefl-respecting attorney can stand up in front of a court and make this argument about absolute immunity with a straight face.
It was also not a good day for Speaker Mike Johnson and most members of the GOP (Great Obstructionist Party) as well. The motion that he brought to the House floor for a vote on articles of impeachment for Secretary Mayorkas failed. As did the standalone aid package for Israel. So instead of doing something constructive that could help the country like passing the bipartisan border bill they have wasted more tax payer dollars on these useless efforts. Talk about fiddling while Rome burns!!
Majorie Taylor Greene, the current impeachment queen, has vowed that this effort to impeach Mayorkas is not over so we can expect more tax payer dollars and congressional resources to be frittered away for no reason whatsoever. James Comer and Jim Jordan have also wasted boatloads of tax payer dollars on sham investigations that have gone nowhere. All of their combined efforts have thus far produced zero results. Someone should really investigate these indivduals for waste, fraud and abuse of tax dollars!
It is very clear the Republican Party, now the Trump Party, is completely incapable of doing anything constructive for this country unless Donald Trump sees some personal benefit to himself. It is laughable for Mike Johnson to claim that he is the one in charge of the House majority when, in fact, a third grader can see he is simply a marionette dancing on the strings being pulled Trump and his MAGA sycophants. Real leadership requires courage. Mike Johnson clearly has none. Not to mention the fact that he is incapable of even counting the votes prior to putting legislation on the floor.
The GOP, once known as the Grand Old Party, has been transformed into the Great Obstructionist Party, led by Ring Master Trump and featuring a daily freak show and clown car wreck which would make even P.T. Barnum disgusted. It’s not even entertaining. It’s like pulling up a chair and watching a train wreck. You can’t look away but you ultimately walk away after it becomes an unrecognizable tangled mess of junk knowing that nothing good just happened but it will take a huge amount of resources and money to clean up the mess!
The circus continues! The American people deserve much better!
