Yesterday I wrote about the Republican clown car that is also known as the House of Representatives. They continue to demonstrate they have no business trying to govern since they can’t even manage their own affairs. Speaker Mike Johnson wants to have a GOP ‘retreat’ at the Greenbriar Resort in West Virginia next Wednesday and Thursday but, so far, less than half of the GOP members of the House have RSVP’d. Many members have floated various excuses about other obligations and others have just flat out said they don’t really want to spend time with other GOP members given the fractious nature of the current GOP membership.

Mike Johnson is, by far, the weakest, most ineffective Speaker of the House, I can remember.  This latest embarrassment reminds me of the nerdy kid in school who sent out birthday party invitations and no one showed up. Many people had issues with Nancy Pelosi, but there is no way that she would have ever called such a meeting without ensuring she had a super majority of her membership who were guaranteed to show up. Johnson suffers just one embarrassment after another. I guess that’s what happens when you sell your soul to the likes of Donald Trump, Matt Gaetz and Majorie Taylor Greene. [And just a very depressing reminder – he is third in line for the presidency!]

The situation is so bad, more GOP sailors are jumping off the Johnson Titanic. Republican Ken Buck, a conservative from Colorado announced today that he is leaving the House at the end of next week. He is not even finishing out his term. His last day is March 22nd. He said one of the reasons he is leaving, in what must be one of the greatest understatements of all time, Congress is broken! No shit! Mike Johnson already has a razor thin majority in the House, and it just got thinner. So, you’ve got a very weak Speaker who is incapable of managing the House in its current makeup and it is going to get worse!

Trump clinched the Republican nomination. The RNC is now under Trump’s full control with a Trump election denier and his own daughter-in-law installed as co-chairs and will become one of his personal piggy banks to the detriment of virtually every other Republican running for office down ballot. Mike Johnson will soon have an even thinner majority in the House that he can’t even manage now. Oh, yeah, and there are all those pesky legal issues and Trump’s big mouth which keeps getting him in more and more trouble. What could possibly go wrong?

Lastly, I’d like to apologize to all those individuals who make their living as professional clowns. These people try to bring joy and laughter to people’s lives and try to improve them in some small way. The current Republican party and especially its leadership do not deserve such a lofty title as ‘clown.’  Frankly, the Congress would work more effectively if real clowns were in charge or even perhaps a group of third graders.

I am retired after spending 30+ years in the defense industry. I am an avid bicyclist, Harley rider, skier, and world traveler. I really became interested in politics during the last few years but have enjoyed writing on many different topics for a long time. Some people agree with me, some don't and that is fine. My 'musings' are simply an outlet for me.
