A rational person would think that Trump and his sycophantic circus would be concerned about the harm their slash and burn tactics are having upon their constituents given the 2026 midterm elections are really not very far away in political terms. Yet, the tariff policies and ensuing trade wars they are pressing are hurting American consumers, American businesses and American farmers and ranchers and they continue to escalate. There are serious talks about gutting Medicaid which will adversely affect many of Trump’s most fervent supporters. Every American with school age kids will feel the impact of dismantling the Depart of Education. The measles outbreak in Texas continues to spread with no end in sight and the defunding of things like cancer research will clearly not make America healthier. But they are plowing ahead despite increasing discontent amongst many of their own voters. Why is that?
My belief is that they do not care about what the voters think because they have a plan to stay in power regardless of public opinion. That is why I am genuinely concerned about the midterm elections even taking place, except as perhaps window dressing for the world. I believe that entities like the Heritage Foundation, billionaires like Peter Thiel and Elon Musk, and their Republican puppets are engaged in Machiavellian schemes to subvert any chance the Democrats have of retaking the House and Senate in the 2026 elections, even if there are elections.
Just look at what is going on in Wisconsin right now. An election will be held April 1st in Wisconsin to elect a person to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. First of all, I disagree entirely with the idea that judicial races should be partisan but, be that as it may, there are two candidates vying for this seat, a progressive judge, Susan Crawford, and a Trumpian candidate, Brad Schimel. The outcome will determine the 4 – 3 make up of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Elon Musk is pouring millions of dollars into this race to support the campaign of Brad Schimel, not so much because he is the more qualified or least biased, but because he supports Donald Trump! This is not about the law, or which candidate can exercise jurisprudence with an eye solely towards the law, this is an election about loyalty to Donald Trump and putting judges in place who will favor Trump over the law. If Musk is successful in buying this election, it will just be the first of many over the next couple of years as MAGA takes control of more and more courts that will then side with Trump – the law be damned.
This is just one example of many such activities that are going on around the country. In 2020, Trump tried all kinds of schemes to stay in power. Remember the famous alternate slates of electors that some Republican led states tried to use to circumvent the Electoral College. If anyone thinks that they will not try all these shenanigans and dream up new ones to influence or short circuit the 2026 and 2028 elections, you are being very naïve.
The bottom line is that Trump and his cohorts do not give a damn about the damage they are causing on their constituents because I believe the already are working on plans to circumvent the will of the voters in 2026 and 2028. Trump once remarked to a group that ‘this is the last time you’ll have to vote.’ Everyone better take those words seriously because, although Trump lies constantly, in this case we should believe him. Trump and the MAGA Republicans and all their oligarch backers have no intention of ceding power in 2026 or 2028 or any other time in the foreseeable future. If you choose not to believe that do so at your own peril.
