My apologies to anyone of the few people who might have read yesterday’s initial post. It was a repeat of the previous day until I corrected it. Of course, if I were Donald Trump, I would simply claim that I did not make a mistake, and the two columns were completely different. That is exactly why I did not watch Trump’s address to Congress last night. It was a one hundred percent probability he would spew a litany of lies so what was the point?

Someone should invent a real time ‘Pinnochio meter’ to insert up in the corner of the screen whenever Trump (or his toadies) are speaking very similar to how they have insets showing a person translating the speech into sign language. As Trump speaks, Pinnochio’s nose would grow and shrink in relation to the amount of truth contained in what was being said. It would be both amusing and sad at the same time, but it would certainly be entertaining.

The town halls that have been held by Republican Congressmen/women of late have not been all that entertaining, at least to the Republicans. Many have devolved into irritated crowds raking their elected officials over the coals. As a result, the Republican National Committee has ordered the Congressmen/women to stop holding town hall meetings because the are not providing a good look for the Republican Party. Duh!

The RNC has stated that most of their constituents approve of their policies and these town halls are being disrupted by Democratic plants. That is most certainly true in some cases but certainly not all. However, it begs the question, who exactly are these Congressmen/women representing? And why are they too cowardly to take questions from all their constituents, rather than just those who agree with them?

I have always been under the naïve belief that Congressional representatives are supposed to represent everyone in their districts and townhall meetings are a mechanism for the representative to LISTEN to their constituents. I was clearly wrong. These days, the RNC seems to believe that townhalls in Republican districts are just opportunities for supporters to lob softball questions and generate favorable sound bites. However, the fact is, if any politician cannot stand up in front of a group of people and answer any and all questions from Democrats, Republicans, and Independents, they have no business being an elected official. Their job is to REPRESENT and LISTEN to their constituents – all their constituents.

The fact that the RNC only wants their people to conduct town halls that look favorable to them goes hand in hand with their attempts to restrict voting and gerrymander districts. They know many of their policies are widely unpopular, but they will go to any length to maintain power and push through their unpopular agendas. While much of the media focuses on the measles outbreak in Texas, the American people would be better served by focusing on the epidemic of cowardice sweeping across the Republican Party.

The Republicans continue to demonstrate they are nothing more than spineless sycophants, who are more interested in how things look than in actually governing and making tough decisions to stand up for the Constitution. If Musk wants to save taxpayer dollars, he could start by sending all the Republican congressmen/women home and just replacing them with a big rubber stamp. They will no longer have town halls to listen to their constituents unless they are heavily controlled.  They will do nothing to stand up to the Trump, Vance, Musk wrecking ball. So, if they are not going to do anything, fire the lot of them! Their only purpose now is to see how much fealty they can show to Trump! Pathetic doesn’t even begin to describe it.
