There will be plenty of time to review and analyze all of Trump’s picks for high level government positions. I particularly like the choice of Pete Hegseth, former Fox News host, to head up the Department of Defense and, arguably, the most powerful military in the world. There are those who will point out that he is a veteran who has served in the military. I would simply like to point out that having served in the military does not, in and of itself, mean that he is qualified for this position. That’s akin to saying that someone worked as a McDonald’s shift supervisor, and they are then qualified to run the entire corporation. No one would buy that argument. However, Mr. Hegseth is supremely loyal to Trump which is obviously the more important factor. But more on how the Trump Circus is filling up the upcoming administration clown car in the future.
A news story that will probably not be widely circulated or read involved the serviceman who leaked highly classified U.S. intelligence information online. As you may remember, Airman Jack Teixeira of the Massachusetts Air National Guard was arrested after posting classified intelligence information online. Yesterday, Mr. Teixeira was sentenced to 15 years in prison for what has been called one of the most damaging security leaks in history.
That brings us to Donald J. Trump and the case brought by Jack Smith against Trump for purloining troves of classified documents and stashing them at Mar a Lago in very unsecure locations. First of all, according to the Presidential Records Act, Trump had no right to these documents and secondly, the way the documents were stored and managed is completely in violation of all processes for handling classified information. There is also the matter of Trump defying a subpoena to provide the documents and an effort to hide the documents from authorities.
Judge Eileen Cannon, who was assigned to adjudicate this case, famously slow-rolled the case and dragged it out in accordance with the wishes of Trump and his legal team. She demonstrated her incompetence by having two of her decisions overturned by the District Court. In the end, however, she simply dismissed the case based upon specious reasoning revolving around the unfathomable decision by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding limited presidential immunity. Clearly Judge Eileen Cannon will be under consideration for a spot on the Supreme Court during the Trump administration should one open. She has certainly passed the loyalty test.
Once again, ‘the rule of law,’ turns out of be a joke in Trump world. A 22-year-old kid gets sentenced to 15 years in prison for leaking classified information and Donald Trump, once again, escapes any accountability for a crime that any other person would be facing prison for.
Now that Trump has ‘limited immunity’ and virtually unlimited pardoning power, the law and how and to whom it will apply, will likely be what Trump and his minions choose to make it. Cerberus is about to be unleashed, and I think many Trump supporters are going to be very surprised when it bites them in the ass.
