It is quite clear from Trump’s initial actions and his choices for top government positions that Trump has no intention of governing, he intends to rule. Anyone who thought Trump was bluffing when he said he was only going to be a dictator just for ‘Day 1’ and that he wasn’t lying through his teeth about the ‘Day 1’ part was not paying attention for the last several years. There should be no doubt now in anyone’s mind that he intends to impose his authoritarian brand of government upon the country with the full support of a Cabinet staffed with people whose primary qualification is that they will bend the knee and kiss the ring of Trump.

The Republicans in Congress, particularly the Senate under the leadership of Mitch McConnell, and the U.S. Supreme Court had chances (note the plural) to stop this and they have collectively failed this country in ways that aren’t even yet imaginable after King Trump takes his throne in the White House. Trump vowed to ‘remake’ the government and that is exactly what we are going to get. I predict that many of the ardent Trump supporters are going to seriously regret their choice. As they say,” power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely” and we are all going to get a front row seat to witness this in action.

He intends to eliminate the Department of Education, and I have no doubt that he will use the power of Federal funding as a cudgel against many universities and their curricula with whom Trump and his minions disagree. After all, the best way to control a population is to keep them uninformed (except with whatever BS you wish to propagate) and ignorant.

With the trio of Steve Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, Kristi Noem, Department of Homeland Security and Tom Homan, Immigration Czar, you have a trio of hardline immigration folks who I predict will embarrass the United States in front of the world with policies and actions that will be cruel, inhumane and ultimately ineffective and costly.  We should just stop the pretense and rename the agency, DIRE – Department of Immigration, Repatriation, and Eviction!

Despite the fact that the United States incarcerates more people than any other country in the world, the stock of the two largest private prison operators shot up after Trump was elected and they are salivating at the millions of tax dollars they will reap as a result of this cruel, racist, Quixotic and economically unsound effort.  The United States embarrassed itself for the unforgiveable use of internment camps for citizens of Japanese ancestry in World War II.  Here we go again. This will be really ugly. The ‘shining light on the hill’ that was once a beacon of democratic principles around the world will be forever dimmed.

It was bad enough having Trump as president during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now he wants to put vaccine-denying, conspiracy-theorist, Robert Kennedy Jr, in charge of the public health system as head of the Department of Health and Human Services. Over a million people died during the pandemic, many because of Trump’s ineptness. There is no doubt that the appointment of Kennedy to this position will result in the needless death of many Americans including many children due to outbreaks of once near-eradicated diseases like measles. Couple this inane Cabinet choice with many Republicans’ stated desire to dismantle the ACA and slash funding to Medicaid programs and you have a colossal healthcare disaster in the making. But, then again, what’s a few tens or hundreds of thousands of peasant deaths when you are safe in your castle!

With Tulsi Gabbard named as Director of National Security, we might as well rename the position to Director of Russian Liaison Activities. Given her record of pro-Russian remarks, it is a virtual certainty that America’s allies (or soon to be former allies) will be hesitant to share extremely sensitive, vital intelligence information with the U.S. because they will not trust Gabbard, and rightly so. The only pick that could be worse for this position is Marjorie Taylor Greene because, not only is she pro-Russian, but she is also – let’s just say intellectually challenged.

There is obviously no doubt that Trump disgusts me but what really disgusts me are the people who had a chance to stop this circus from coming to town and failed to do so. So, a word to all those spineless Republicans and members of the U.S. Supreme Court who failed to stop Trump from taking his throne. Just remember that King Trump has a shiny new, very large bus, and odds are that many of you will end up under it before all is said and done. You should be thankful that there is not a rat-infested dungeon under the White House or that the guillotine is out of fashion. Oops, sorry! I didn’t mean to give the King any ideas!!
