The cowardice in Congress is once again on daily display these days. The House Ethics Committee, in a split decision along party lines, voted to not release the investigation report on Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, Matt Gaetz. I suspect that all kinds of little birdies were Twittering around (and yes I purposely chose that word) the Republican committee member’s ears letting them know in no uncertain terms that if they did the right thing and released the report, King Trump would be very upset and would make sure they would incur his wrath and retribution.  So, rather than allow the American people to see for themselves why Matt Gaetz should go no where near the Department of Justice, except as possibly a defendant, they tucked their cowardly tails between their legs and voted to quash it. ‘Independent’ Ethics Committee my ass.

We can only hope the Senate refuses to allow Trump to push through this nomination with a recess appointment and as part of their Constitutional advise and consent role they will have a full hearing on Gaetz and subpoena the report. The House Committee didn’t have the guts to do what they should have done so they figured they could get off the hook by kicking the can over to the Senate. As I stated previously, I have absolutely no faith in the Republican led Senate and fully expect we will see more Profiles in Cowardice.

The co-president elect, Elon Musk, and the other court jester, Vivek Ramaswamy, have apparently devised plans to layoff potentially thousands of federal workers and slash regulations.   I wonder if anyone has thought through the question of “where will all of these people get new jobs?”  The unemployment rate is already very low. “How will all of these people pay their bills and their taxes if they have no jobs?”  “Have you accounted for the loss of tax revenue?”  “What will be the impact on the housing market if these people can’t find new jobs and can’t pay their mortgages?”  “Just exactly how will the economy absorb such a shock?”

My guess is those questions have not been seriously considered because at the bottom line, they don’t really care. Does anyone really believe that everyday Americans are going to benefit from the chaos created and the cost savings that may or may not be realized? Elon Musk already gets billions of dollars of United States contracts. Could it possibly be that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have ulterior motives for slashing regulations and potentially freeing up billions of tax dollars? Is there any small chance that some (or a lot) of those dollars will end up in Musk and Ramaswamy businesses?  It certainly sounds like the beginnings of an oligarchy. There is no doubt that the rich in this country will get much richer under Trump and the rest of us – we’re just collateral damage. Maybe Putin loaned them the playbook.

A seemingly unethical or at least gutless House Ethics Committee.  A Senate led by Republicans who can’t seem to find one spine among them. A Supreme Court that is hell bent on caving to the whims of the MAGA right. A host of cabinet nominees who are universally unqualified. And the world’s richest man who is a close confidant of the president elect and who stands to benefit hugely by slashing regulations. What could go wrong?

The U.S.S. America is entering a sea of icebergs. The captain and all the bridge officers are in the salon for a photo shoot! Ratings are everything after all, which is why so many pretty faces from Fox News have been tapped by Trump!  We all know, of course, when the vessel begins taking on water, who will be the first in the lifeboats and it won’t be any of us. I suspect many of us are going to be treading water in a very chilly ocean for a while.

Get your arm floaties as we set sail on a ship of fools!
